Mini Review:
I probably wouldn't have read this at all if I'd known that pregnancy was literally the only thing this book was about. I also would have DNF'd if it wasn't so short. I disliked the poetic nature of the writing because it did a poor job of explaining what was actually going on outside of the main character's situation. Iraxi was also a very strange main character, which alone is not the issue, but being inside her head made the plot all the more confusing. I wish she was explored more as a character and not just an expecting mother. I really don't like when that's the only character trait of import mentioned.

Cargo (2017)

Mini Review:
This was a fresh take on the zombie genre. It felt more survival than a gory horror like many modern zombie movies go for. Martin Freeman blew this performance out of the water. I was sobbing by the end of the movie. The actress who plays Thoomie, Simone Landers, also did an amazing job that showed a lot of emotional depth. Overall I'd say this is a more emotional zombie story than many out there. I will always watch a movie with Martin Freeman.

Thanksgiving (2023)

Mini Review:
+ points for good effects and creative kills
- points for the bad acting and predictable reveal
I found myself cringing so hard at a lot of the dialogue. Eli Roth is sadly mostly a miss for me. He has interesting ideas but I don't enjoy the execution. I normally love a good slasher movie, but I question the acting choices. For what it was, I'd expect something self-aware like the new Scream movies, but I apparently was not the target audience for this film.

TV

Percy Jackson and the Olympians

Mini Review:

The casting in this show was great! The only of the main three actors I'd seen before was Walker Scobell, who played the titular character. Leah Jeffries encapsulated the attitude of Annabeth Chase very well. Even though she doesn't look like the description of her in the books, her acting was extremely convincing as a Annabeth. Unlike the previous live-action movies, these characters are at the correct age, and while many times I find young actors to be less convincing in roles that come from pre-existing characters, this was not the case. Aryan Simhadri, who played Grover, was also a delight. The trio's relationships and how they progressed through the first book, The Lightening Thief, was not disappointing.

Where I think the show may have faltered is it's pacing. While they did hit all the major plot points; Camp Half Blood, the prophecy, Medusa, the casino, meeting Ares, and more, with only eight episodes, it felt crammed and rushed. If the first season would have been expanded to even ten episodes, I feel like the important parts would have more time to breath. Instead, it felt like we were just jumping around to fit in each new character just for one episode.

Overall, I am very glad that this adaptation finally got made. I absolutely loved the books growing up as I was around the age of these three characters. I think it was a successful adaptation and I'm looking forward to the next season.
